There were a lot of games revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025. There were some disappointments and surprises, which is the norm for such events. For this event, it could be the fact that it feels a little rushed due to the fact that many were used to the organized hype of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, which no longer exists. However, it is an improving platform where publishers showcase their upcoming titles and to give fans awareness of what to look forward to in the coming months, and sometimes years.
Most of these titles discussed in this post keeps it short and simple, with many that caught my eye which happens to be releasing later this year. Let’s see what’s coming up from the Summer Game Fest this year!
Stranger Than Heaven
Stranger Than Heaven was the mystery game teased during The Game Awards, which belongs to and hosted by Geoff Keighley, as with the very same Summer Game Fest. Originally titled Project Century by Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio—famous for the beloved Like A Dragon (formerly known as Yakuza) game franchise, Stranger Than Heaven shows two different trailers: the initial Project Century trailer taking place in 1915 from The Game Awards, and the new title debut trailer taking place in 1943.
There’s no further information of if it’s a completely new game, or if there’s a connection–other than a map of what looks like the fictional Sotenbori–with either a Like A Dragon, or the sister game series from RGG Studio, Judgement. We’ll possibly have more details including a release date during Tokyo Game Show in September.
Death Stranding 2
Death Stranding 2 is the highly anticipated sequel of Hideo Kojima’s first game outside of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, starring The Walking Dead star, Norman Reedus. The first game was widely acclaimed, especially having been released during the global pandemic. In 2025, fans are looking forward to what the famed game director has in store this time around in late June 2025.
Resident Evil Requiem
Due out February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth installment of the long-running horror game franchise. There was some uncertainty whether anyone would get updates of a new game in the series, but Capcom did not disappoint.
Honorable Mentions
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Fans have been clamoring for a release of Final Fantasy Tactics for a modern audience. Square Enix finally listened with the announcement of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles due out September 30, 2025. It is a remastered release of the game originally released for the inaugural Playstation console, although it includes enhanced features based on Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions that was released for the PSP, and a few quality-of-life features for the modern release.
Honorable Mention: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Due September 25, Sega’s latest and upcoming entry in the character kart racer genre is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. It’s anticipated for the return of everyone’s favorite Sonic the Hedgehog characters. However, the biggest update with the next installment of the Sonic racer is the inclusion of other Sega franchises—especially one outside of the Sega realm. Players can look forward to seeing Sega mainstays Hatsune Miku from the Project Diva series, Joker from Persona 5, and Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. We’ll also see Steve from Minecraft from Mojang in the care of Microsoft in the post-release realm. Although… how long until we see DLC of Goro Majima from Like A Dragon: Pirates in Hawaii with the experience he’s learned from Dragon Kart in The Aloha State?
