Music Spotlight: Kim Sarang – 무죄 (Innocence)

This week’s Music Spotlight highlights a song from Korean solo artist Kim Sarang. I discovered one of his songs over a decade ago, thanks to being a regular player of World of Warcraft. However, this song has no direct connection to WoW itself, but it was used in a fan made video of a fellow player of the Horde, an Undead Warlock rocking it out and killing everything in sight.

Music Spotlight: Last Note – “オサナナブルー (Childhood Blues)”

As someone who is new-ish to the Vocaloid fandom, I would like to share my findings with those who are also curious of Vocaloid music, especially in 2019. For the first Vocaloid entry in the Music Spotlight series, here is an original song featuring Vocaloid GUMI by composer Last Note.

Weekly Stream Notes: Issue #1

You’re reading the first edition of the Weekly Stream Notes, highlighting news and stream highlights every week during the livestreams on the Centaku Media channel on Twitch. The idea was inspired from the Weekly Minutes I wrote as Secretary in our local anime club, Scenic City Anime & More, and from the original blog series inspired from those minutes, The CEN.TAKU.ME Journal. With these minutes, it will help introduce Centaku Media to both readers and viewers, new and old, as well as helping myself in keeping up with the littlest things I said during a 3 hour broadcast.

Interview: ST~Prime (Soultaku Sound)

This was originally published in late 2011. As of republication, the group ST~Prime now promotes under Soultaku Sound, and can be found on SoundCloud and Bandcamp!

It took a few months in the making, but we are pleased to publish our second and last interview from MTAC Goes to 11 with ST~Prime! Hailing from Memphis, TN, the Nerdcore Hip-Hop team has come many ways from The Band of Seven to ST~Prime; today, their story is told.

At MTAC, only Fox and MTrilogy were present at the convention, so we were unable to perform a live interview for the podcast. However, despite a few delays, I was able to interview ST~Prime together via mail!

Music Spotlight: Kay-G – So Good

For this edition of Music Spotlight, here is an indie K-Pop artist that I came across a couple of years back during my personal hunts to fill my phone with a plethora of Korean Music. One of the songs I came across was by Kay-G (케이지), who previously released his debut track back in 2017.

Music Spotlight: Male J-Pop Groups (As Heard By a K-Pop Fan)

I came across a video the other day that was created by YouTube user “just a black guy who likes j-pop” featuring the latest of what Japan has to offer when it comes to Male J-Pop Groups. As someone who has been exposed to K-Pop for more than 15 years, this is familiar territory.

Watching the video, I couldn’t help but notice the familiar soundscape of each group presented in the video. What I heard in the video sounds–and looks–like a modern K-Pop group. Only if I pay attention to what I hear, it’s what modern J-Pop sounds like in the sound of many groups on the way of becoming global superstars, such as BTS, or even NCT 127.

In Pictures: Epik High 2015 North American Tour

It was in 2015 when Korean Hip-Hop group Epik High held their first ever North American tour, and boy, was I so excited when they announced Atlanta as a stop! Just two months shy of the fourth anniversary of their first tour, in 2019, the group is returning for a sold out show in Atlanta. And the way I heard about it their potential stop for their first show was a situation where I was at the right place, at the right time!

In Pictures: 90s KPOP Superstars in Atlanta, GA

On October 29th, 2015, Star1 Entertainment held the 90s KPOP Superstars Concert in the Atlanta area at the Wild Bill’s Nightclub in Duluth, GA, which was a surprise treat (pun somewhat intended, because two days Halloween) for K-Pop fans who live in the Southeast, especially in Atlanta. A concert of this kind was also interesting as the K-Pop acts who perform in the US are current mainstream artists such as BTS, BLACKPINK, and NCT.
