Interest Treasures: The 5 Best Dragon Ball Videos on YouTube

This is another entry into a new series called “Interest Treasures”, where I highlight something that not many people know about within a fandom–that even the fandom doesn’t know about–within a geeky–or for the sake of this blog: an Otaku interest. The first entry in the tag, I highlighted a K-Pop artist who is called the “90s G-Dragon”, Yang Joon Il. Today, I figured I cover 5 of the Best Dragon Ball Videos on YouTube, where even a big, long running fandom that might have missed; especially for new comers.

Recap Throwback: Anime Weekend Atlanta 15

The following is a republication of a recap of my first Anime Weekend Atlanta in attendance! It was originally published following the convention in 2009. Since we’re in a situation where there are no cons to attend, unless virtually, in 2020, I figured this would be a good opportunity to wipe the dust off some of these posts, and with a little editing of typos here and there.

A LOT has changed since then, which also brings up a reminder that there are things that once were acceptable, which is now viewed with caution; I am not going to bring it to attention now, but you may figure it out as you read along, especially if you’ve been keeping up with the anime industry in the US in 2019.

#PoorSportsmanship: Weeaboo Stories, or: “How NOT to be an Otaku”

Note: This was originally written on September 21st, 2011 and is republished for archival purposes. By the time I posted this, the Tumblr account for Weeaboo Stories was taken down, likely for obvious reasons. This post originally included links to the account, but not even the Wayback Machine has them. So previously existing links will be highlighted in red for those who (whether it was for good or bad) missed out on the dark side of the fandom. Just imagine what went down in the broken links…

The Seoul Searching Chronicles: Dongdaemun & Lotte World

This entry is part 5 of 6 in the series The Seoul Searching Chronicles

Welcome to part five of The Seoul Searching Chronicles! Today we highlight our last day in Seoul with a trip to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and Lotte World–which is said to be the Six Flags Theme Park of South Korea.

We kicked off our last day emerging from the subway to the bustling area of Dongdaemun, which also houses many street vendors, and the interestingly designed Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which is home to many modern design exhibits when it comes to architecture and fashion. (It even as a SMTOWN store located on the second floor, which totally caught us off guard!)

Tutorial: Auron’s Katana from Final Fantasy X

The tutorial, or rather a walkthrough, is of the famous Katana held by the Legendary Guardian, Auron, from Final Fantasy X. This could be an entry in the #ThrowbackThursday series of posts, but it has not been published until today, and on a Friday. This was originally written in 2011, a year after I finished a cosplay project that was several years in the making back then, after completing the game in late 2003. Though I finished the costume literally 48 hours before MTAC in 2010 (the year which is known to many attendees as SwiMTAC), I had little time left to work on the prop beforehand. I needed at least two weeks to make it. In the end, it only took a week and a half to finish it, and two days of cutting it between letting the Liquid Nails dry between the dowel.
