K-Pop Rules The World: How South Korea Overtook Japan in Digital Music Choices

If you are into J-Pop, including K-Pop, then you may be wondering why you don’t see enough content outside of Japan of your favorite artists without having to go to great lengths to obtain the latest release. It might be due to a generational issue of complicated, and possibly financial, reasons. I was originally going to just Tweet about this, but this needs more than 280 characters. So I am going to just write about this in a form of a blog post. It’s about the reasons why K-Pop is as global as it is, with even a handful of male J-Pop bands embracing the style of K-Pop. And it all falls back to an interest in music from another country that is right across from South Korea.

Weekly Stream Notes: Issue #4

Here is the fourth edition of the Weekly Stream Notes, where the news briefs are highlighted during the stream. This is a way to catch up on the latest in the world of Anime and Gaming, as well as what’s happening on the Centaku Media community. Since it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve had a traditional stream notes posting, here is a catch-up on the weeks of 7/7 and 7/14.

As of writing, you can catch Centaku Media live on Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube on Sundays at 12 PM, and Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5 PM. All times are US Eastern. You can also watch the streams on the Livestreams page, which has the latest schedule updates!

Share Your Twitch Channel and Goals

In an effort to reach out to other users who share like-minded interests after relaunching and rebranding under Centaku Media, I created a Twitch account back in 2015, where I’ve streamed Dragonball Xenoverse, Final Fantasy XIV, and Overwatch. 2018 has been a year where I’ve attempted to set up a stream schedule, due to the convenience of living 10 minutes away from where I work, and the long breaks in between.

However, due to the growing workload, and the sleep difficulties of being a third-shift employee, I have been unable to keep my schedule. Now that I am in a different role at my job, and with slightly more free time, I’ve been streaming on certain days that work for me between writing new posts, and other duties of being an adult. There is also the option of having an impromptu stream during the week. Despite the efforts of keeping a consistent schedule, and finding the perfect game to stream, it’s difficult to find the viewer draw; It’s hard to compete with 10,000+ people playing Overwatch, as well as Fortnite, at any given time.

Channel Surfing: Flowering Heart

The idea for this edition of Channel Surfing came as this: In a random quest to find Korean anime on YouTube at 3 AM, I came across this series called “Flowering Heart”. It’s probably what you think it is: a magical girl anime series–that tackles issues as such in 10 minutes every week.

Each episode is roughly 12 minutes long, and there are two seasons of the show that began in 2016. It’s a Korean anime series targeted to “tweens”, as described in the description and video titles. What really caught my attention is that it has an English dub, which can be viewed right now on the series official YouTube channel.

No More DramaFever and FUNimation on VRV

For those who keep up with Asian Dramas and Dubbed Anime will be looking for alternatives in the coming days, if not a couple of weeks. It was announced two weeks ago that previously independently-owned DramaFever, which was acquired by Warner Bros., shut down its streaming service on the day of the announcement. Crunchyroll, on the other hand, will have a slightly smaller streaming library.

Internet Woes at Centaku Media HQ

I had a masterplan for a comeback to Twitch streaming back in August, by streaming my late Season 11 progress in Overwatch, and also playing a few other games outside of Blizzard’s hit game. But September saw a couple of problems. One being of my convention prep for Anime Weekend Atlanta, and one being of an unfortunate problem.
