Music Spotlight: Male J-Pop Groups (As Heard By a K-Pop Fan)

I came across a video the other day that was created by YouTube user “just a black guy who likes j-pop” featuring the latest of what Japan has to offer when it comes to Male J-Pop Groups. As someone who has been exposed to K-Pop for more than 15 years, this is familiar territory.

Watching the video, I couldn’t help but notice the familiar soundscape of each group presented in the video. What I heard in the video sounds–and looks–like a modern K-Pop group. Only if I pay attention to what I hear, it’s what modern J-Pop sounds like in the sound of many groups on the way of becoming global superstars, such as BTS, or even NCT 127.

A Supernatural Foreshadowing (Spoilers)

In the spirit of sharing things that are beyond just anime and manga, but still in the realm of geekdom, here is something that I’m sharing that’s a little outside of my normal routine, and of something that I have yet to indulge myself in. For those who are out of the loop, The CW’s longest running series, Supernatural, is wrapping up for good in the near future. As usual, there are a lot of memes to be had to last for years to come.

One, but two in particular caught my funny bone when a close friend of mine, Bella Sparkles (@mybellasparkles) shared these memes with me. However, she does not want to share it with everyone directly in fear ruining it for everyone else who has yet to watch or catch up with Supernatural. However, using my stealthy writing techniques, I am sharing this with everyone to soften the blow. Of course, I must warn that the following will still contain spoilers, so read at your own risk! I, however, will not mind this as it will probably be a while before I get into this show. If you’re in the same boat, then proceed!

In Pictures: Epik High 2015 North American Tour

It was in 2015 when Korean Hip-Hop group Epik High held their first ever North American tour, and boy, was I so excited when they announced Atlanta as a stop! Just two months shy of the fourth anniversary of their first tour, in 2019, the group is returning for a sold out show in Atlanta. And the way I heard about it their potential stop for their first show was a situation where I was at the right place, at the right time!

In Pictures: 90s KPOP Superstars in Atlanta, GA

On October 29th, 2015, Star1 Entertainment held the 90s KPOP Superstars Concert in the Atlanta area at the Wild Bill’s Nightclub in Duluth, GA, which was a surprise treat (pun somewhat intended, because two days Halloween) for K-Pop fans who live in the Southeast, especially in Atlanta. A concert of this kind was also interesting as the K-Pop acts who perform in the US are current mainstream artists such as BTS, BLACKPINK, and NCT.

What We’re Playing On Twitch – March 2019

Back in August 2018, I gave myself the task of livestreaming on Twitch throughout the month streaming the remainder of Overwatch’s 11th competitive season on the Centaku Media channel, which concluded at the end of August. Then I was sidetracked by con preparation in September, and Internet issues in October. Now that a lot of the issues are out of the way, there’s still a lot to do in establishing a quality livestream!

The 24 K-Pop Concerts I Attended in the 2010s

Back in February 2018, I made a personal accomplishment by attending 20 K-Pop concerts since 2012. The first K-Pop concert I ever attended was BIGBANG‘s first world tour, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Since then, a close friend made it an effort to attend as many K-Pop concerts as physically and financially possible. Even if it’s not “In Your Area”.
